Youth

poem by: Melissa Marsden

To have all the time and days again
My burnt out soul can't but dwell
Snake - like the years slithered fast
And the bells of youth are silent at last

It touched too briefly then it fled
Before I was aware it had begun
Screaming, dying , drowning , crying
The song has been and gone

Pretend my dance will be once more
When bitterness has closed the door
I watch behind curtains of silent pain
As rivers of salt water pour like rain

Green eyes watch children in their fairy floss days
Kaleidoscope memories of razor sharp ways
Their dance is now it's here and real
Jealous wounds I can't conceal

I'll ride through the remnants of a life now cold
Ice to water and youth turned old
It was joy, it was sorrow, it was laughter and pain
And for all that it was it won't be again

That's true Melissa....we can't have those days back again....alas... ...but it does no good to be jealous of the youth of today....it's their turn....so I just close my eyes, and go back in time through my 'minds eye'....to happy times that's long gone by........it does me good........I loved your poem....
